Governor William Bradford (1590–1657), one of the original Mayflower Pilgrims and the leader who guided Plymouth Colony through its early years, recorded in his journal, Of Plimoth Plantation, how he ended a severe seven-week drought by leading the colonists in one day of fasting and prayer--to everyone's astonishment.
